Stressful when you're trying to do everything. Anyone??

I'm only writing this because I was a bit stressed today with a shoot I was on and I'm not venting because it was a good day over all but I just felt like writing it down on DVXuser.

So I work for a media company in Portland, OR but we also do web design, print etc. and the client we are working with this weekend is a pretty big one even though the budget is quite small. Anyhoo, I'm not a newb when it comes to video and editing, but let's put it this way. It's hard when your the one trying to do everything. I had some guys from the company helping me out today on the shoot but you might know how it is trying to check everything to make sure the audio gear is all working, the lighting is right, shots look good, etc. I'm realizing that if I can't do everything by myself. One thing I have a hard time with is getting the lighting right in a shoot with a limited ammount of time. Anyways, We are driving to another location to shoot more scenes on monday morning and I'm excited about the project and the client but I just needed to share a little bit and maybe someone else here feels what i'm throwing down.

Being a one (or even two) man crew can certainly be challenging when it comes to commercial videography, especially when you're working full rigs in field locations. I can definitely say it gets easier though, and over time you even get use to it. It's also going to give you a good foundation for event / run & gun videography should you decide to go that path in the future.

Just do your best every time and as long as you're seeing a steady positive progression in your subsequent shoots, you're doing a good job. Lighting expertise, whether working solo or with a full crew, is something that comes with a lot of time and experience.

very funny Grinner! I agree that it gets easier the more you do it. And by all means, if you have the budget, farm some of the work out.

2nd day

2nd day

So we had our second day of shooting and it was by far, so much better than our shoot on Friday. We shot a total of 3 interviews and a scripted scene so there wasn't as much work as there was on Friday but the weather was perfect and everything just went a lot more smoothly. We didn't end up using any lighting though, just used the lights in the office because they wanted it to be documentary feeling.

Anyways thanks for the encouragement guys.
