Strange sample rates: SD 722

My new SD 722 can record at all usual rates like 32, 44.1, 48 etc kHz, but also at 48.048 and 96.096 kHz. Who and when would one use those rates, or are they there for historical reasons only?

Arguably yes. 48.048 was created for slowing down DAT for film to NTSC (48.048 played at 48 would match the film slow down from 24 to 29.97). I forget the exact machine but one of the Fostex DVD-RAM readers needs a similar sample rate trick to match telecine speed.

You will only possibly need it shooting film and then only if the telecine house needs it.

Cheers

Question answered, gentlemen.

I knew it was some NTSC mush... (sorry, Wabbit...). or some videotape-as-storage-medium leftovers.

Oh, I thought you were bragging about the lack of .1% slow down in PAL land.

The slow down is actually 24 to 23.96 before the frame pull down to 29.97. Skipped a step before.

Cheers
