strange problem with after effects

I'm using after effects 7.0 to add magic bullet to a music video, but when I render the video there is a problem where when it cuts to a new shot in the video it does a quick dissolve into each shot instead of a straight cut. I've tried rendering the video without any added effects in AE but it still does the quick dissolve in between cuts. It's hard to explain, but just imagine a few frames dissolving into the next shot so it looks like you added a dissolve in between shots.

Was it put in a timeline with a higher framerate than the original clip?
It sounds like frame blending is turned on and is making new frames.

That can happen if you put a 24p clip in a 30p 30i or 60i timeline with frame Blending turned on. It will try to make some 6 frames a second up from a blend of the ones on either side of the cut, rather than just add pulldown frames.

The footage is 24p and I have frame blending turned off. It seems that the dissolving occurs when the next shot is either brighter or darker.

Here's a still of what it looks like after rendering the video in After Effects, it should just be a straight cut instead of the dissolve that happens.
