strange playback problem...

hi,
I'm using FCP 6 on a mac pro with 1 T HD space and 8GB ram. I am editing some 1080/24pA footage from my HVX and have had smooth sailing, no problems until just today...

when I hit the spacebar to play back footage on the timeline, it plays only a couple frames then stops. the curser stops and the image freezes, yet the audio continues...

what could it be causing this problem? I've tried changing the external video playback settings, and lowering "unlimited RT" and frame rat etc... to make sure there were no dropped frame on playback, and the problem still persists.

any help? I can't edit without being able to playback/see the picture...

Check to make sure your windows aren't overlapping and that your video is set to FIT TO WINDOW in the canvas.

What OS are you on?

Before I upgraded to Leopard, I could edit 1080 24pA on a G4 PowerBook. After Leopard, even the Log and Transfer window playback is jumpy on a new machine.

Timeline, jumpy.
Log and Transfer, jumpy.
P2CMS, done for.
