Strange Bird...

So uh...

As I sit here in front of the computer there's this bird that keeps flying into my glass door. It's been doing this for the last couple of days. Same bird. It will fly into the glass, hop back a few feet and then try to fly into it again.. repeating this for several hours on end. Anyone have a clue what could be wrong with the poor thing?

I've had birds accidentally fly into my window before but that was quite different from what I am seeing. This bird is intentionally repeating it's actions and it's not flying fast enough to hurt itself (just a few feet ).

The bird is probably nesting nearby and is seeking to drive away possible predators or competition, and it cannot distinguish its own reflection from the real thing. I had a Robin doing the same thing, every morning. I put a colorful poster in the window and it stopped.

Awesome. That reminds me of something that happened to me last fall...

The girlfriend and I were sitting at a bar with an outdoor patio having a few drinks when a bird flew full speed into the window a few feet from us and died. A couple of minutes later, another one did it. Over the course of 15 minutes a total of 3 birds met their doom at the hand of that window. Here's our theory... they were all sitting in the same tree about 30 feet from the bar. That tree had a bunch of berries on it that, upon further inspection, appeared to be a little past their prime.

So it was a case of birds getting hammered on rotting fruit and flying drunk into a window. Let that be a lesson to you kids.

"stupid bird" - iamloser that was a riot.

When I was a kid we had a mulberry tree in our backyard. At the end of the season our house would practically get pummelled with drunken birds. It actually bothered my mother so much she had the tree cut down.

Oh well,

Foe even more fun, try my Parents' backyard when the apples have fallen to the ground and fermented...and the hornets have been at them.

Nothing like a storm of drunken bugs carrying deadly weapons.
