I'm planning on shooting a short movie using the DVX100a intended for straight to DVD and for entry in festivals. Should I shoot in 16:9 or 4:3? Squeeze, Letterbox or using an anamorphic adapter?
If you already have an anamorphic lens, then by all means use it. It will give you the highest resolution by compressing the image on the entire frame. One caveat--some festivals will not take anamorphic encoded material. I would check with the festivals you're interested for their entry requirements. You may need to stretch out your anamorphic material in post, shrink it, and letterbox it for some festivals that don't accept anamorphic material.
