Storyboards for music video I'm working on

I'm doing a music video for a band called "Dear Jane, I..." who are gaining popularity in Toronto.

Anyways, I'm be doing pre-pro for about a week and a half now, and have a few pages of storyboards for it.

I'm shooting on April 15th and hopefully the 17th. The 15th will be in a bedroom that I'm building from the ground up in a studio in my school, so we'll have unlimited lights/stands/grip equipment.

Anyways, here's the first seven pages of storyboards, they're not done in the way that they're supposed to be, but this way flows better for me.

I'll show grabs when after I shoot.

Rockin story boards mans.

When your in the studio... please... remember.. ART Direction... don't have your video look like all the other crappy student projects shot indoors... try and hide the fact that your in the studio with good set dressing and lighting.

You'll be leaps and bounds ahead of everyone if you do.

Is building a bedroom really easier than bringing lights/gear to a real bedroom? Are you doing an effect like in Gondry's Everlong video?
 
Brandon, you should be happy with the amount of planning you've done so far. Those boards are awesome. I'm sure the shoot will go as smoothly as my mind's eye sees it based on your sketches.
 
Frizzle, I'm not even nearly done pre-pro.
This is just the beginning, I will present the storyboards to the band hopefully this weekend and tweak accordingly...hopefully they won't want too many changes.

When that is done, I'm going to go through each shot and make sure I have everything planned for it. I'll probably edit the storyboards together quickly to the music just to get an idea of what shots I'll need and whatnot.

uhrgl, for the set we're going to need to smoke it and have a BFL (5K, perhaps?) outside the window for sunlight streaming in. It wouldn't be possible inside a real bedroom.

Besides, we have the studio space (free) so why not use it? And all the equipment we have there is great.

Also, it's going to be an overnight shoot and it would be really hard to control the environment in a real bedroom. This makes sure everything is catered towards us.

I'm in the late stages of gutting and remodeling a house we bought. If you have any family or friends who have done this or built anything, start consulting with them as soon as possible. They most surely will have great ideas on how to do it cheap and make it look as convincing as possible.

One thing I've learned through the work we've done here is that it takes at least twice as much time (and money) as you expect it to, so don't wait on that aspect. But I agree with you -- you're a lot better off building it than trying to use a real location that someone wants to sleep in, and you can build it to your vision and your specs. Good luck!
 
My friend's (who's friends with the drummer) dad owns a large construction company, and he himself has been a construction worker since he was 15. So we're getting free wood, free drywall, and free paint.

He has experience building, and I worked two summers for a residential construction company, so I have some too.

I've drawn out a design for it, (12 ft, 16 ft, 12 ft walls, it's only a three wall setup), and we're going to be building it hopefully sometime early in April.

So that's taken care of :).
 
One last update...I finished the storyboards...
There's only ten, but it should be enough. Now it's time to write out my shot list, take notes on what I'll need and whatnot.
