Storing Media-Fireproof safes

If you have a media safe, what do you use?  I just realized I bought a safe that is not officially rated for media--tapes, discs, ect. It has a picture of files in it ( paper.)  Apparently there is a difference in a media safe and one for  paper..but I'm not sure, maybe its just marketing...

there is a BIG price differnce. the one I bought a few weeks ago was on sale at $60. this is the "media" safe:

Well, I think unfortunatly...that the heat surrounding the safe is just as damaging to media as the fire that seeks to consume them. Thus, I'd expect a "media safe" fire safe would be designed to minimize rising temperatures inside the box in addition to actually preventing the fire from entering the inside.

You could just get a safe deposit box somewhere if you need a short-term solution and don't have a lot of stuff. Also, a lot of post houses will warehouse your media in their library for a fee. Typically they have environments that are conditioned especially for magnetic media in addition to advanced fire solutions (halon and similar systems).

I got the media safe from office depot faster than I had time to fret about it. The inside of it is much more substantial than others I have or have seen. Doesn't look like much space, but you can cram a lot of tapes in there.

just a little peace of mind. not everything in life is replaceable..
