Storage besides MiniDV?

Hey sorry for the silly question but I'm really lacking in the MiniDV department. I don't know where to buy miniDV in bulk at a good price in Canada. I'd like to film an entire event going on that lasts all day. Every second of it. It lasts 12 hours or so. I'm using a Sony VX2000.

from what I've seen, anywhere you can walk in a physically buy them is usually a rip-off. I buy bulk panasonic tapes (PQs) from 2.89 each online.

when is the event? do you have time to grab them online?

The event is March 7th. Does it matter what brand of tapes I use? I agree with you aswell, everywhere around my area is a rip off for miniDV tapes.

Wow, I got a really good deal

There is a local store in town that sells discount things (usually slightly damaged or out of season things, often from costco). They had a 10 pack of tdk mini dv tapes for 8 dollars a piece. I bought 10 of them, for a total of 100 tapes for 80 bucks. You might check some local stores similar to this. These tapes were brand new and of perfect quality.

Just beware that Mini DV tape uses a certain kind of lubricant. In order to successfully make your Mini DV workflow bulletproof, you need to pick a brand of tape stock and use only that brand. If you mix and match, you stand a very good chance of tape head clogs and capstan clogs from the two or three different tape lubricants that have built up in your transport mixing into a gummy mess.

If you decide to use the much less common and harder to obtain Panasonics, you had better buy a pile of them because when you are in the middle of the shoot and run out of tape, your local Best Buy, CVS or Costco are not going to carry Panasonics, they will have the Sonys though. That's why all of my Mini DV mechanisms have all only had Sony tape through them, because it is the most common and easy to find stock. The Panasonic tapes are great but generally much more expensive and more difficult to find.
