Stopping it at its source

Alright, I've read through a lot of post and forums. So maybe im not reading hard enough into it to answer my quesiton. I've already posted in the Canon section, but hopefully I will get a more in depth response here. I have a Canon XH-A1 with the Rode NTG-2 and M3. Both sound great in close proximity, however, like others, I am picking up a hiss/humm noise. I have tried most settings on my camera, as well as doing test in a park, away from all electronics, aside from my camera. Fixing the sound in post would be a last resort. I want to fix the problem before I even start shooting. What can I do???

Is the hiss/hum noise being recorded or are you just hearing it on the headphones plugged in to the camera? Lots of cameras (including the DVX) have noisy headphone outputs - check that first.

Its being picked up by the headphones and recorder by the camcorder... Ive tried most settings, still no luck...
