Stop Motion

I just thought of another feature that the pro versions of premiere seems to have left out. Unfortunatly i thought about ti becasue I needed the feature. Does anyone know of any good programs (free or not) that does a good time lapse capture?

That's a good question. I've done some slight time lapse stuff where I shoot at 1/6th shutter on the DVX and then speed up 400 or 800%. But I imagine you're talking like a whole day's worth of clouds or something longer than an 83 minute tape.

Take a look at ScenalyzerLive ( www.scenalyzer.com ). It's all I use for capture from tape. It has a time-lapse capture feature. Haven't used that feature myself but every other feature I used has worked very well. You can download a trial version to see if it does what you want. It's only $39 to register.

I have used it for capturing a live DV stream although I normally use DVrack for that. It would be interesting to see if you could do the time-lapse capture with a live video stream. Hmmm....

I just checked it out becasue i actually have a copy of scenalyzerlive. It does have a stop motion feature but you have to click on every time you want it to capture a frame. I cant afford to capture a few days worth of footage on my hard drive so i need something that can capture a few frames every hour. scenalyzer can set your tape to record in realtime on a day to day basis but not stop motion so unfortunatley it cant be of any use ot me, it is a great program though (even works with my old pinnacle pro one capture card fro analog capture

It does have a stop motion feature but that's different. Take a look at page 38 in the online manual. In the options you can turn on time-lapse capture and set a time-lapse 'factor' which determines how often it captures a frame. Along with this you can seperately set an automatic start and stop time (page 35).

In fact, it has the following tip: "You could use the timer function to start capturing a time lapse recording automatically at sunrise."

Make sure you've downloaded the latest version. Version 4 just came out last December.

Now I have to try this for myself.

How is this program for printing to tape. I realize that it takes upa lot less ram than doing it through premiere and it also uses a buffering system to reduce the possibilites of dropouts and especially audio pops (something premiere has got o get under control) But is it laying my 24pA footage down to tape properly?

I've never used it to print to tape. The buffering on capture seems pretty robust as you say. I'm usually write to tape from a timeline so I've always done that from Premiere.

As for 24pA footage, I don't believe it matters. As I understand it, for the footage to exists as a DV AVI, it must be stored as 60i footage with a pulldown applied. Scenalyzer would simply see it as 60i footage and write it to tape that way. This of course is how the DVX writes to tape to begin with.
