Stop a frame and get photo for 5 seconds?

Hey

How do you stop a frame to get a photo in black and white and then change the scene,
like in the movie CLOSER?

You could use the razor tool to cut the clip, then export the frame at the cut line, Cut the second half of the clip you just split, and put the still frame in it's place. So now the last frame of your clip will be the still frame. You can extend it as long as you like and add any effects. I haven't seen Closer so I may be way off.
 
Or, if you are not importing a BW picture and just want one frame to be BW and stop for 5 seconds? Razorblade one frame out of the clip*, copy that enought times to fill 5 seconds, desaturate that to BW.

I think you could also export that one frame clip to file, make adjustements in Photoshop and re-import as a still.

*If you enlarge the clips enough you can see each frame separate.
 
Check out this tip from Matrox. I have somewhat tweaked the tip though, in that I create a White Matte and place it between the two clips. Put a Cross Dissolve at the beginning and end of the White Matte. Make each Dissolve 1 frame and the Matte 3 frames. Put a camera shutter sound in the timeline at the beginning of white matte. This will all make sense once you read this page ...
