Stolen DVX question

I had my brand-new DVX stolen in Denmark. I brought it on tour with me to do a little tour doc, and we (Thievery Corporation) were on stage at the Roskilde Music Festival when someone (on the inside) went into our dressing room and lifted it. The pain is too much to discuss, but can anyone tell me what the serial # looks like? is it one of the #s on the mailing box? or should i just contact the seller/warranty people? the reciept dosen't seem to have it...

If he had access to the eyepiece, he wouldn't have a problem.:cheesy:

...therein lies the irony of my post.

he should have the serial # written down on the warranty info card portion for customer retention

And he should store that card in his camera bag. D'oh! Nevermind.:)

Ah that just sucks! I hope you also didn't lose any good material/footage.

The serial number might be on the box. On the camera it's under the eye piece (too late now). I'll check my box this evening to see if it has a serial # on it.

As a recommendation to everyone, if you have a digital camera, take photos of your equipment. Take one overview photo and use the macro option to capture the serial #. Burn a CD of these photos and keep it in a safe place. These can later be used when trying to recover for insurance reasons, etc.. If you store copies online somewhere you can then quickly access them when traveling.

I'm very sorry to hear about your camera!

On another note. You are with Thievery Corporation. THAT IS VERY COOL!!! I listen to The Outernational Sound, like 5 times a week. My wife and I listen to it almost every night at dinner. We put it on low in the background and do the whole hip lounge thing, right in our house, or we play it on the back deck with a pitcher of peach martinis.

You guys ROCK!

The rules may have changed, but for a long time camera equipment was actually listed on passports so a person wouldn't be charged duty more than once. On my passport my equipment was listed by SNs. If the rules have changed, disregard this post.

Sorry, that really is bad news.

That's your serial number, alright. You might contact Panasonic Denmark (or whoever handles sales and service in Denmark) to let them know the serial number. Then if someone sends the cam in for repair, they can snag it. I have heard of that happening when a stolen cam gets sent in for repair, but I don't know how feasible it is in your situation.

As Chris mentioned, you guys are *great*. Let me know if you ever want to do a video. I'm based in the DC area and I'd get a DVX crew together in a second if you were interested.

was it the # on the same sticker that has the upc code and says AG-DVX100AP? it would be something like: C5TD00099.

the photo suggestion is a good one. i had STUFFBAK.COM stickers on everything, too. (if you aren't familiar with stuffbak.com, it should be the VERY NEXT site you go to. it's an amazing service.)

i did lose some really important footage, (snoop dogg backstage the night before, kraftwerk live on stage from the pit, the chemical brothers in a torential downpour with 90,000 people around us, etc etc) but now losing the camera becomes part of the story. so the audience is just going to have to dig it when it switches from lush dvx footage to digital camera movies and animated photos. my digital camera (nikon 8700) with a week's worth of photos was stolen with the bag as well.

i do hold out a little hope of seeing the camera someday down the line. it's an NTSC camera in a fairly small PAL country. i'm sending out faxes to the local video shops. also, the festival itself is a massive event, and we should be getting some press regarding the theft and the lost film footage.

thievery corp is killer.
sorry to hear about your loss bro...
keep your head up!
t

Rob,
Sorry about the loss. Sounds like you're on some cool trips. Hope your family is doing well.
