A friend of mine asked me today if I knew of a software that she could use to input shot types and not the actual video of the clips. I am almost certain that can be done with FCP. I know you can place labels on clips. Or add info when logging a tape. I told her to check out either FCP or DV Rack.

In FCP you can load up a tape and log it, marking various in and out points in the timecode, but not actually capture the footage. Is that what you mean? The clips will show up in your bin as offline.
