Stitching Firestore Clips in Final Cut

Quick question,

We have the FS-100 for the hvx200, and because it's formatted as FAT32, it can only record 2 minutes and 18 seconds of footage before splitting the clips. However, the HVX200 does not seem to generate timecode to the FS-100 through Firestore because the HVX200 doesn't see a P2 card.

So, how do I stitch clips in Final Cut together, when the Timecode doesn't match?

thanks,

Tim

Remember that once you drop a clip into the Timeline, it gets all new timecode. So you place the first clip in the Timeline, place the second one right behind it. I do this a lot. Works great, no gaps.

Can Final Cut recognize when a clip has been split into mulitple clips, and upon import, create one lone clip?

We have the FS-100, and every 2:18 it creates a new clip. So a 10 minute continuous shoot is going to yeild approximately 5 clips on the harddrive. I'd rather not work with 5 2 minute clips for a documentary that could have 60 hours worth of footage. That's over 1000 clips. So, can Final Cut recognize that even though the FS-100 splits a 10 minute clip up, that upon import, it should be 1 long 10 minute clip, and not 5 2 minute clips?

Thanks again,

Tim

I have the same problem

I have the same problem

I am shooting with the HVX and the firestore FS-100 and I have the same problem... I am forced to import tons of little clips for an hour interview, and then forces to but them together manually... Anyone else have this problem, and know if you can get FCP to import it so it will stitch the clips that come from the same interview together... If there isn't a fix for it apple should make that possible...

Agreed this is not a good situation. I doubt there is much Focus can do about it, its down to the P2 utility and NLE makers to come up with a solution.

We have had Quicktime files which relate to multiple media files for ages, so this should not be an issue for them to 'fix', more a question of will they be listening.

Just checked this on Xpress Pro and its the same.

We use it all the time with a DVX 100. Works great once you know the secret....set the firestore to capture in "Quicktime" (not Raw DV, or QT 24). Then FCP will recognize the flagged frames and it will remove the advanced pulldown and you're left with true 24p. Make sure to put it on a 24 frame timeline too. All this is assuming you are shooting 24pa on the DXV.
