Stills as prep...

This is random, and I'm not too sure of it being much of a conversation starter, but here it goes. The past month and a half or so I haven't shot any video at all, as I have been waiting for my Letus Extreme to arrive. In that time I've gotten VERY heavily into still photography (something I used to do a bit years ago), and I really think that it has been some of the best warm-up/practice-before-shooting-a-film work I could ever do. I feel so much more confident and ready to get behind a moving picture camera now than ever before. I feel my abilities to know what lighting works and what framing works has been so well warmed up and primed from doing still shots. I really feel that every director and/or cinematographer out there who doesn't already have one, should be given an SLR or DSLR and told, "Go. Play."

Thoughts?

A firm grasp of the principles of still photography provide a solid base for motion picture photography, yes. :)
