Stillmotion in motion :-)

The crew at http://www.stillmotion.ca were evidently not just shooting weddings this summer. They put together a beautifully shot behind the scenes piece which chronicles a corporate assignment pretty much from the story board to the final product. It's all shot (including the bts) on the Brevis MP.1, and features quite a few shots using our Ballare Dolly. Enjoy :-)

Looks great. Nice and clean, but the extreme letterboxing is extremely distracting.

Was this shot in 30p 0r 24p?

I'm convinced Patrick and his crew could shoot magic with duct tape, rusty tin cans and a pin hole camera :-)

Reem, the letterboxing I think was there to visually cue the viewer between the actual corporate footage, and the bts stuff. I'm not 100% sure if the final piece used that aspect ratio but I'll find out. I'm pretty sure the format was 24f from the XH-A1.

absolutely beautiful. Very inspiring work.

Very high production value.

Need to get me one of those bellare dollies :)

Loved the shots with bokeh/color backgrounds. Better if they canned a lot of the 2cam angles (in the behind the scenes) and just used the nicer shot. But that's off tangent, great corporate piece!

The Brevis definately looks great. A really nice look to it.

Was that the indislider or something else?

They've got a selection of the FD, and EF Canon lenses. As Canon sponsored shooters they're generally using the professional series glass...same as they'd use for stills. The EOS 100mm macro and 80-200 f2.8 (constant aperture) I know are favourites of the crew.

Reem, the Ballare dolly configurations are listed on our website (catalog link) and the video university section has a video overview of the system that we shot.

Cheers,
Dennis

a whole new level

a whole new level

Turning corporate videos into film... into art. Awesome.

With production tools getting better and more affordable all the time, and with the web providing for the nearly-free distribution of video, every company will want their own video brochure. Especially if it can be as fine as this one.

I, for one, will be doing less writing at work and more video production.

The piece was inspiring. Congratulations.

Very nice concept and really well shot. I would have chosen a 2.35:1 mask instead of the really extreme letterbox. I think it really compromises the compositions.

Thanks guys. I was speaking with Patrick tonight and as you might guess studios like Stillmotion and Urbanmouse are "our kind of people". In other words, serious about their art form, not afraid to give us hell when required and above all...nice folks to hang out with :-) We've been working on a little project which involved flying Patrick, Konrad and John from Stillmotion up here to chilly Thunder Bay. What happened over the three days last week can only be described as an intensely satisfying creative collaboration...and you'll see why over the next two weeks.

Cheers,
Dennis.
