Still the DSR-11?

My Panasonic AG-DV1000 deck seems to have bitten the dust. I am pretty broke so the cheap camcorder option is looking attractive to me at this point for capturing footage--until more funds become available.

However, I also believe in the right tool for the job as well as quality in-quality out so I do also run through the numbers trying to figure out if a real deck is within my grasp.

So...the Sony DSR-11. This deck seems to have been around for about 25 years or something. It was around back when I got my DV1000 and finances dictated that i get the cheaper Panasonic. It is still around and peolple are still recommending it. The price doesn't seem to have changerd. What I wonder is, how long is this thing going to be on the market? Is it going to be replaced anytime soon (with attendant price drop)? Is there a similar deck out there of comparable price/quality?

Or should I just repair my DV1000?

Sorry for the vagueness. I'm still burning that my deck suddenly decided not to work.

The DSR-11 seems to be a very good deck. I have never used it personally but from what I understand it is the way to go.

How much would it be to repair the DV1000 deck? If it is only a few hundred I would suggest doing that. If it is more than a few hundred, the dsr-11 is about $1,600 so getting that brand new might be a good idea.
