Still learning...

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I don't have a DSLR myself but I always borrow my friends as of right now to take some quick shots here and there. Here I borrowed my friend's Canon 1D Mark IV and took some pictures of my motorcycle. The 1D is amazing... Now all I have to do is try out some rolling shots... Let me know what you guys think!

Get the photo IN FOCUS the first thing... I don't think there is a real clear spot on either photo. Think "rules of thirds" in framing your photos.

You really don't need a DSLR when learning how to take photos

I think the 1D would be super complex for someone just starting out.

I suggest something like a Canon G10 to test the waters to make sure if photography is something you want to invest time and money in.

I admire three things about the work of established photographers: 1) composition 2) lighting and 3) risks taken behind the scenes. Keeping that in mind, you'll find plenty of topics on each subject and images to go with them.

Welcome to the forum,
SB

Yeah the 1D is definitely not the camera I'm starting off with, just my friend had it handy so I wanted to test it out. Yes I'm still browsing around this forum to learn. Thanks for the welcome!

That's a hell of a friend to loan out a 1DIV to a novice. Never let him go. A friend like that would complete me. :-)

I disagree. If you are going to get a camera to start learning photography, do not sink money into a G10. Get a T2i.

To learn photography you will want more DoF control and interchangeable lenses. The G10 is great for deep DoF photography though! It is more of a second camera, but it is NOT any more of a simple to operate than a T2i, 1D. In fact it is MORE complex since you have to go into clumsy menus for everything. The magic is in 100% manual, that is how you learn and create, so the more wheels and buttons the easier a camera will be to control.
