still confused over NLE's

posted this in the vegas forum....was hoping to get some thoughts from people that have used all of them....

"Hey all- I know this has been debated before but I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on Vegas vs Premiere Pro Vs Avid xpress pro NLE's.

I have a dual 2.8 Zeon system that is hungry for some software. I've been debating my options about these three for a long time....Vegas seems like the best deal for the money but I worry about 3rd party support and the "future" of the software. Adobe Vid collection is a great deal as well and Avid's "new" studio essential package with xpress pro is a nice package. I work with FCP's at work and we have one Avid Adrenaline set-up. For transfering programs it would make sense for me to get the Avid or to switch to Apple but I am still drawn to the Adobe and Vegas packages. I like that Adobe seems to be more upgradeable as far as 10 bit uncompressed stuff goes....24p...they all have covered...is there any other issues I should be thinking about? Most of what I would be doing would be MiniDV...sometimes BetaSP DVCpro 25 and 50 - short videos for the web and DVD authoring.

any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks "

it's a tough call because the guys I mostly work with all have FCP....which makes me want to go out and purchase an apple....but then my PC is left to collect dust in the corner... Adobe is pushing their Vid collection to seemily many "3rd party PC builders"...i.e. turnkey systems....and I feel there will be more users that will end up using Ppro since they made it very similar to FCP.....I like Avid but don't feel they are committed to the lower end Dv user/editor.....
just some thoughts.....

any suggestions from people that have used all the above mentioned software?

thankx

Re: still confused over NLE's

I actually cut a feature a few weeks ago using Vegas and basically cut picture to output to an EDL so they could online it back up on the online Avid in NY. Needless to say, was kinda a pain in the ass untill I figured out that sony has a built in CMX compatible EDL output script. I did learn though that it is an advantage to use software that everyone is on the same page.. as it did take me a few extra hours bringing everyone up to speed on what Vegas was.

That said, I probally saved 10 hours using vegas because it works the same way my brain does.. I cant stand Premier Pro, and Avid seems to be cumbersome for the kinda edits I do (no transistions, just cuts and fades) I must say I really like color timing on Vegas as well, and the one touch clip to 16x9 is a nice touch. Check the Vegas forum, we are having a contest where you can win the full Vegas+DVD package.

Don't forget Pinnacle Liquid. I have been using for my weddings and the workflow is so easy. However, you do have to have the system capability to run the program.

There's a lot to like about Liquid. A LOT to like.

Until you want to work in 24p, of course. As far as I can tell, there are no plans to add that capability any time soon.

hehe, just go with discreet smoke. Its the way! Nah, but its really up to you just like these guys tell me. Do what makes you feel better and what takes the least amount of time to get things done.

I would say Adobe overall cause all its products work so great together from the get go!
