Still camera advice.... anyone?

I'm looking to spend between 1K - $1,500 on a still shot camera but I'm not sure how to get the best bang for my buck in this area.... anyone care to throw some advice/direction my way that's within this range?

Thanks! :)

Do you already have any lenses, and if not is $1500 for a full package?

The Canon 40D is a good one. $1,300 at B&H with a 28-135 lens, I'm sure it's a lot less used. I'm sure Nikon has some good stuff, but at that end they tend to be a little costlier and usually I find the build to be less comfortable. The new Rebels are less, and that would allow you to budget in a better selection of lenses or a nice flash unit and off camera setup for it. I've never used the new ones, but I know in the past they've done excellent work with that line.

The GH1 looks like a great hybrid, but I don't know about the options for glass and the smaller senor is a problem. It's not a problem as a video camera, but it's pretty limiting for someone who mostly or exclusively does photography, especially in regards to lens choice. For a lot of situations wide simply isn't wide enough, and cropping wouldn't help.

The rebels, take GREAT pictures... shockingly good for the price.... and they take ALL EOS glass.... if you need a trick shot... rent a lens for 20$ a day....

what does the GH1 have over the Canon EOS 50D?

Also, does anyone know what kind of lenses the GH1 uses?

EDIT: I found that it uses the new image-stabilized Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/4.0-5.8 10x zoom lens........

I still can't find any specs on it though...

Yeah thanks for raining on my parade terry.... lol j/k

i got the camera today and I'm blown away by the images..... they're stunning. I'm not crazy about having a recording function on the camera so it's all good.

Sorry, Jay. I'm sure you'll be happy with the 50D. I've been thinking about a 5D Mark II or waiting for the 60D. Hey, I only have a 30D... but I have a 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens. Need to get some more L glass.
