StickyPod

Has anyone used this product? It looks like a really good idea. It is around $130 for the "pro" packages and I think I might buy one if it is any good. It is advertised on the forum, but so are a lot of other things so there is no way to determine quality.

i have one.

and i actually used it last night.

its okay. for the price, it does its job.

though if you are very serious about steady car-mounted shots, and are relying on this to give you pro results, you might be dissapointed. i'd say its for amateur videographers on a budget only.

How big is your camera? I have an XL1s and plan to get the HD JVC. Does it support the weight of the camera?
It should, but always secure it to the car by some other method. Something like rope to attach to the car is way better than just relying on the suction pods.

Oh, I would make sure my camera gets no where near the pavement. How bumpy is it on film? I think that even if it was rough, it would be good for chase type shoots.

i have a dvx and it supports the camera just fine.

the footage was pretty rough and bumpy (ha!) but usable, especially if you are seeking chaotic looking footage (for chase scene maybe).

basically, with the stickypod, you get what you pay for.

the stickypod comes with 2 different size tethers to secure it to your car.

I have never seen one of these in person, but the pictures I have seen make it appear too "homemade" for my taste. I went with a setup from filmtools along with some existing grip heads and rods for extra support and could not be any happier.

Could you be more detailed? What's the downsides of the product?
What would be better with a better product?

I ordered one just a couple of days ago :undecided

i had a hard time finding a place to attach the tether to the car, and an even harder time adjusting it to give the pod extra stability.

the setup shook a good amount while we were driving it attached to the hood.

also, about half an hour into the shoot, we noticed that two of the suction cups had come loose. needless to say, we were very glad we noticed!

i've never worked with a car mount system before, so i have no other knowledge of them. maybe they are all this difficult to maintain.

but for just over $100, the pod isn't too bad (i mean, it still worked right?).

with a little work, and a few extra bungie cords and latches, you could totally make the most out of this rig.

Thanks for the info.
If the setup shakes too much it might be that the suction caps were not designed "flat" enough.
I'll see when I get mine.
