Steven Soderbergh's "Bubble"

It may "combat piracy" to a point, but will not kill it. Also I believe it kills some of the windows so even if you thin down the piracy, you lose even more money by killing off your tv/cable windows. That's my opinion anyway.

Soderbergh.

Could there not be a more hyped filmmaker? How this guy won an Oscar is beyond me.

I'm surprised Clooney and Juila are'nt in this as he can't seeem to piss without their help these days.

Why is he concerned about Piracy? Has he even made a movie since Traffic that warranted piracy? Maybe he should make a good movie first and then worry about piracy.

(Okay; end Soderbergh rant for the day)

Yeah, I think Soderbergh's very overhyped. I've really been impressed with Clooney. I think Clooney's by far a better filmmaker than Soderbergh.

Soderbergh has his moments, but on the whole is a very inconsistent filmmaker. As far as the simultaneous release, I think it's a bad idea. I miss the times when theatrical release was something special, and it took years for the home video release. I miss those days.

NIce points both of you; I agree. Clooney is becoming quite the filmmaker andthis simo release is a bad idea.

Man, that's crazy talk. I agree on the theatrical run, but how could you miss the time when videos came out years later? I'm psyched when the dvd comes out in six months.

I'll have to agree with the masses here about Soderbergh, though. Maybe he should chill out and spend some more time on each project. The quantity of his work definitely does not mirror quality.

would putting dvds out INCREASE piracy? People can just copy the film at full quality and hand it off to eachother.

Am I wrong?

I talked to several people at the Toronto festival who saw Bubble and they all hated it. I dig some of Soderbergh's stuff, some I don't.

Eh, it's just personal opinion, but I remember being a kid and my parents would take me to a movie and it was an event because this was going to be my only shot at seeing this film for two, three, four years. So it meant something. The only movie that I remember that broke this rule was Burton's Batman which came out like six months after it left theaters and I remember standing in the store staring at the VHS thinking "This is some kind of trick. I just saw that movie in the theaters." I even took one up to the store manager and asked if that was the real movie, the whole thing. That holds some magic for me.

Nowadays if a movie hits theaters I'm generally like "eh, it'll hit DVD in two weeks, I'll just catch it then." Now, having young kids, there is an advantage to early DVD release (Hudson knows what I'm talking about), but I think I'd be willing to trade that convenience for some of that old Hollywood magic. And one of the ways for me personally to have that magic back is to make the theatrical and DVD release two seperate and special events.

Good point, Krestofre, I hear where you're coming from. I have a two year old and haven't been to the theater in a long time, so I guess I'm a little biased. The dvd release is usually my premiere nowadays. For me, it's not really a matter of convenience, just excitement to be able to watch it.
