I don't know if anyone has ever used products by Steve Kaeser, but I'm looking into purchasing on of the lighting kits his eBay/site store has on their catalog.

The company has a respectable history since 1989, and is more known for it's backdrops and muslins. I recognize the name Britek, the manufacturer of the lighting equipment.

Has anyone ever used equipment from these guys? I'm a little apprehensive :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

They're Britek lights. I bought some from him and the order was all messed up. The bulbs were not in the box and later I discovered that the one of the speed rings were for a 300w light. But the damn things are so friggin undependable that the above were the least of my worries. Now that said it was not Steve's fault because they are shipped direct from the factory. I'd take that 619 and use it to build a diverse light kit not based around Britek, plenty of good used deals out there. I hate how the kits online consist of 3 lights of the same wattage...cool if you're looking for a 1:1 ratio.

There are a LOT OF REPLIES about Britek products here. Just do a search in the lighting forum and you will find a ton of complaints. No single product here has so many people with complaints. Many like them and have no problem, but far too many have issues for it to be isolated instances.

It is a crap shoot when it comes to this brand.

I appreciate the replies

BTW I can understand the need for something that does not give a flat 1:1:1 ratio so how about this I just came across:

I like how it can go from 50 to 1300 watts and doesn't use just a conventional halogen lamp.

Think these might work. Right now I'm a tight budget and I just need a simple set up that I know is capable of doing the job.

Trust me I, understand the budget constraints...i'm fighting thru the same issues with audio. Papa says his are working and he's really been beaten over the head in some of the other posts regarding the Briteks. That's not my style however and in my mind when all else fails get what you can afford and make them SOB's work. I'd say have some extra bulbs and fuses, treat the softboxes with extreme care...I had a rod poke thru on one.

hey that last kit you mentioned there looks intresting, I wonder if its good, is this for photography or video? can they be used for night and daylight balance also? any imput from the experts here or an elternative to the last kit that
peedee mentioned

Thanks Cinebuddy, I'm going to just go with my gut here and make whatever work for me. This would be my first kit as it was and I'm the kind of person that treats their property, and others, with the most extreme respect. Plus, it's in a price range I like. Thanks for the input! :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

I dont think you can do a daylight balance with those light, they throw a yellow orange light, even with the softbox is what I heard

yes you can. i have done it many times,

they come with tungsten balanced lamops.

True, but couldn't you just change your color temp settings to cancel out the yellow orange tint?

how do you do it? what kind of gel do you use to get the temp to 5k?
I am intested because if this is true I am buying the kit
