Stereo vs. Mono Mics

I have been reading some threads and afraid I have made a big mistake. I am doing documentary interview work--indoors, controlled settings. I am using an Audio-Technica
4073a on a boomstand. I am now hearing about AT stereo shotgun mics. Should I have opted for one of these instead????? Should I actually have 2 4073a's for stereo? I am sure that you can pan out for sterea in FCP or Soundtrack, but is this the best way or should I be using a stereo mic from the start?

Dialog (which should include interviews) aren't recorded in stereo, so you're good.

The only thing I can think of off-hand that might be recorded in real stereo is a live concert situation. But even that would just be because of convenience...recreating the live ambience in post would be a pain in the butt.

Not saying you can't do it...nor even that you shouldn't. Just that it's not a requirement of any sort.

A lot of folks will record two channels all the time, even for dialog, but they'll use different level settings on each channel for safety.

Dialog is captured in mono. If you do a search in the audio forum there is a particularly good thread on this topic.
