stereo audio separated only playing on left speaker?

I imported a clip i shot in the dvx set as i always set it. i had 2 separate mics. usually in FCP, one mic is a track (left) and the other mic is a separate track (right). for some reason, this clip was imported as stereo audio, so i went under modify>stereo pair. I then deleted the bad mic i didn't want to use and copied the good mic and pasted it in the second track (what i usually do) and now the sound inly plays out of the left speaker. Any thoughts as to what happened 1. that made my dvx record in the stereo mode in stead of 2 separate channels and 2. in my timeline that won't play the copied audio out of the opposite speaker? Thanks!

pan the track you copied from track 1 into track 2 to the right. you can do this in the audio mixer tool or under the MODIFY > AUDIO > PAN RIGHT menu.

thanks! any ideas why it was recorded this way in the first place? usually when i import it comes in 2 separate tracks...

in the log and capture or laog and transfer windows are audio clip settings. there is a green button with two circles for each pair of channels. if the circles are interlocking, it will bring those two channels in as a stereo pair with one panned left and channel two panned right. if the green circles are not overlapping, they will be brought in as discreet channels panned center and not linked as a pair. clicking on that green button toggles between your two options -- stereo pair or discreet channels.
