I am a videographer/ editor. I would love to step up my game and become a successful producer someday. Can anyone give Me^^ pointers, guidelines, tips or even secrets to become successful in this field? Thank you
Learn how to solve ANY problem. Know how to articulate your points, know a film set like the back of your hand, and have a very good network of people.
But the solving any problem part is key. A good producer can handle anything that comes their way. You need to be a problem solver first and foremost (in my opinion)
That's really advice for a line producer, not a producer. The producer is a businessman who makes deals. You could be a great producer without ever setting foot on the set.
The producer is the guy who puts the whole package together, finds the screenplay or hires the writer, raises the money, hires the director, and makes the deals to sell the film.
A line producer is the on-set manager who keeps everything rolling and solves every problem that comes up. A good line producer is worth their weight in gold. But a great producer is worth their weight in diamonds. Everyone on the set who gets paid, gets paid because a producer did his/her job.
Guess I am just used to the indie / DIY world, where your Producer = Line Producer. I never think in large terms haha
But I still think the "learn how to solve any problem" advice rings true, as there are sure to be issues that come up as a Producer. All I know for sure is that the people I hire 10/10 times are the ones who are A) reliable b) talented and c) able to come up with creative solutions to one-off problems. Flexibility and problem solving creativity are huge assets in film
