SteadyGim 15

Like a lot of people I've been watching these waiting for the price to drop and the technology to stabilise (pun intended)

I like the look & price of the Nebula 4000 lite
http://shop.chdntech.com/nebula/neb...imbal-stabilizer-bmpcc-gh4-nex-eos-m-a7s.html

but the lack of information on the site and response to my emails made me nervous, even at that price.

Then I came across this unit - the SteadyGim 15

http://www.bestablecam.com/brushless-gimbals/steadygim15-3-axis-camera-stablizer.html

They had more information on the website and accepted PayPal so I took a punt and ordered one and it turned up quickly. The unit itself appears well made but with no instruction of any kind on the assembly or wiring, I returned the unit.

The company BeStableCam said they had sent the wrong unit and would replace it with a ready made unit (no assembly needed)

They have stated they will cover the cost of the return postage and I'm now waiting to see that happens.

I know the price is cheap, but is that any reason to accept lack of documentation and poor service.

UPDATE - their communication was good till I send them the tracking number of the returning gimbal - since then - nothing. I have sent emails each day asking for a tracking number for the replacement but no answer.

I decided to raise a dispute through PayPal and within hours I received a 'credit note' for the most of the amount I had paid. NOTE - they haven't credited my paypal account - just sent me a credit note!! -

It appears there people aren't the actual manufacturers, just a retailer - who hopefully won't be in business for too long.

I have had further communication with the company and the replacement gimbal has arrived - I'll put it through it's paces and upload a video today or tomorrow

Very intrigued to see if it works half decently

Did you get any sort of ides what kind of payload it can manage?

The gimbal stand built right into the handle is kind of a neat feature.

Good luck, thanks for posting and let us know how it goes

The handles work really well as handles & stands - unfortunately that about the only positive thing I can say.

I've spent ages trying to balance the unit but the screws they have used are poor quality and soft - after adjusting a couple of times some of them fail to turn at all. the frame moves due to the bolts being loose and not adjustable and it's proving very difficult to balance.

I'm tempted to send it back but at that price I might just treat is as a kit. If I replace all the hex screws and get some rigidity in the unit I might be okay - I don't think I'd trust it for paid work but I didn't pay much (and that's what I got).

There are different versions coming out of the woodwork from a variety of sources - I suspect a lot of them will be crap but hopefully things will settle down and we'll be able to buy a reasonable unit at a reasonable price.

Let the buyer Beware

** update

I've been trying to communicate with the BeStableCam guys but they're not much help, I can't find out what board or PID software is used and when I said I'd recommend that buyers avoid them they replied:

ok - go for it, don't care
