Thanks, tha't great link but it it is not what I need, since I do not have a Steadicam to play with.
Recently a friend of mine gave me a "home made" simple stabilizing device, which works like a glidecam2000
Now I want to know how is the right technique to operate such device without attending any course.
I tried to google some advice but I have not yet found the right website. Most of them offer onsite training of steadicam owner
Well the best advice I can give you is Practice, practice, Practice.
What I do is go , shoot view, shoot view, shoot view.
With Steadicam shhoting the main thing to think about is what is the motivation for the camera move, is to simulate a POV or to simulate the move of a dolly.
The key is proper accelaration at the start of the shot and deceleration at the end of the shot.
The key to filmmaking is not having the cinematic aspects of the shot draw away from the purpose of the story....unless it is a POV shot where the camera is the character.
Watch tons of steadicam material ER, the Shining etc.
Hi there Johan. Taylor is right at saying the best way to achieve perfection is to practice. Now that you've heard that alot, I'll continue
You could also go to a training section put together by some stabilizer manufacturers but they usaully cost. There are one,two days training section sponcered by glidecam quite often. Check their site for details. Maybe you can get a discount. :
Here's a thread you can check out. See if it helps:
Charles Papert is working on a training video but I'm not too sure when it will be out in about 7 months. I guess you need something now, right? You should check the link I give you and the site it is attached to. There are some good pointers.
Thanks for advise, but my only problem is that I am about 10,000 km away from the nearest steadycam training center
I live in Indonesia, and there are no steadycam user around, so my only possibility to learn the technique is by reading book or view the video
It's hard finding a standard type guide for training on a handheld. You will have to do quite alot of searches to find somethin gthat will be useful. My best bet is to go to DVinfo and ask someone who has a hand held stabilizer, to give you tips on using it. BTW, What handheld stabilizer do you have?
