Steady hand?

I have an HVX on a Cartoni Focus. I do realize that when zoomed in at its furthest any shake is magnified. The only time i get a truly steady shot is when its locked off. How can i establish this without locking my tripod off? If I need to hold a frame a certain length and pan back and forth while being fully zoomed in, how do accomplish steady shots? Adjusting vertical drag? Or is my hand not steady enough? The shakes are minimum but I do notice them from locked off shots.

Do you have OIS turned on? At full zoom, though, it's tough to get a perfectly steady shot. There are limits to the technology. OIS will help with shots that are supposed to be steady, but if you intend to move around, you may want to turn OIS off, so it doesn't unnaturally "fight" you intentional movements.

If your shots are not steady while you are on a tripod then it would most likely be your hand not being steady that is causing it. You could try adding a little more drag to the head so it takes a little more pressure to move it. But practice with keeping it held still with no drag at all. If you can get it steady like that then you will have no problem with a bit of drag added. As for the OIS, do not use that while you're on a tripod. Only use it for hand held, even then only if really necessasry.

Thanks guys for the advice, i do have OIS turned off. I guess i just have to keep practicing keeping my shots steady on full zoom.

Being steady with a cam in any shot takes technique and practice -

Personally i prefer my camera to not be balanced very well on the tripod - if it is frotn heavy then the tripod arm will have some weight in my hand - this helps to counterbalance and keep it steady - using this along with a good amount of drag on the tripod i can get very steady shots on full zoom on the focus

Not to state the obvious, but you'll get better at keeping steady the more you shoot.
