Steady Car Mount?

Hello!

Looking for a car mount for my cam that will not require me to pop a Dramamine before watching playback. I've check out the Stickypod and it looks cool but need something for somewhat bumpy roads. Also I don’t have a lot to spend and I need to travel with the device.

Filmtools.com has some great stuff but expensive.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

i have one of the really nice filmtools mounts and the quality of the footage totally depends on the car you use.

if i shoot stuff with my jeep wrangler it is bumpy as hell.

if i use my wifes subaru it is o.k.

if i use my saab the footage is much much smoother.

one of the tricks is to get the add on that connects to the mic shoe on top of the camera that has a rod coming out of it, you put a small grip knuckle on that rod and then either connect it to the windshield with one of the vacuum cups or attach it to one of the larger rods that is already going to the windshield.

basically if you don't secure the top of the camera the vibrations seem to build up and end up at the top of the camera

if you put even just a small amount of pressure on the top of the camera it drastically cuts down on the vibrations.

I have also heard of people letting a bit of air out of the tires of their vehicle too. Another trick is to not drive in the "ruts" of the road.

the vibrations get much worse when you have it hanging off the inside of the windshield.

these kits are all just parts out of the regular matthews studio equipment catalog.

you can get some great deals on ebay and if you get it in a kit you get a bit of a deal from places like film tools.

the main thing with a solution like this is that it is an erector set, you can add on to it with extra pieces and you can use it in many ways besides what is pictured on the websites.

Id say a good bean-bag type mount.. (or rice, if you prefer and aren't from the south.. :) )

Then, something kind of stabilizer software,.. they can work miracles, depending on the shot. Avid does it, and premiere has a plugin to do something similar..

so, a combo of good shooting, as smooth as you can make it.. plus some digital stabilization.

Any other suggestions?
