I have an HVX200A and I have been looking for a good cost effective Steadicam Solution. I know that I would probably be better off getting an Aviator or Pilot arm vest setup, as I will probably eventually upgrade to another camera in the distant future. But under 3 grand is pretty good in my eyes, and the X-10 does allow a maximum of 10lbs versus the Merlin that only takes up to 7lbs. What is the difference in performance? Stability? It appears the X-10 can allow the camera to do a 180' rotation, which the Merlin appears to not have. I could care less about a fast learning curve. I'm willing to take my time learning either one, otherwise my shots will only be acceptable, and not impressive.
