Steadicam Jr. or Glidecam 2000

I just picked up a DVX100a. I want to experiment with one of these devices. I understand that they require some patience and practice but I would like to purchase one that would be easier to use for very short shots, I do a lot of local 30 second spots. As far as weight, I have a AT-4073a shotgun mounted on my camera as well as a 3x3 Chrosziel Sunshade. I don't plan on adding any external lenses or very rarely do I use 3x3 filters since the digital post age. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going handheld, don't bother with a Steadicam JR, or a Glidecam 2000, the weight of the DVX100, without any addons is already past the limits of these two for stability. They might work, but you'll be fighting them.
Get a Glidecam 4000, with the forearm brace, it can handle the weight of your rig with the mic and shade, as well as a 3500 battery.

actually, in defense of the glidecam 2000 pro.. it suits the standard DVX perfectly. its very easy to balance, and fly smoothly . the 4000 is overkill unless your going to heavily accessorize the thing when shooting, but at that sort of weight you should really be thinking about using a vested system anyway. the forearm brace actually reduces the smoothness of the glidecam and instead gives you ease of use... it takes away the articulation of your wrist which is a main component to absorb alot of shock and shake.

but pookie has a point here, for the sunshade, and mic mounted, you should be going with the 4000 if your limited in budget to a handheld stabilizer. .. and the forearm brace would allow you to prolong the continuos usage. ..if your body movement is steady enough, it will still give you good performance.

Re: Steadicam Jr. or Glidecam 2000

I like the idea of the Glidecam 2000 because it is smaller in size. I really don't think my Chrosziel Sunshade is that much heavier than the standard hood, it is really light. The shotgun is a bit heavier but I would say that I am still under the six pound limit. I've been reading more and it seems that the Steadicam Jr. is out. So, either the Glidecam 2000 or 4000 I guess.
