I am always impressed with how they keep coming up with life changing improvements on such a basic product.

I am also surprised that there are no results for 'exovest' on dvxuser! Haha! The exovest is perhaps the most exciting announcement for me in 2012. It was, a revelation. I had been thinking about these issues, and didn't know if there was a way to change the vest design. This does so beautifully and simply. Amazing.

Video intro to product... showcasing not only, much need improvements on how the tool is used by human operators, but also new use possibilities.

...But a friend of mine just told me about how he had been using a flycam, and I looked up what that might be, and I had to laugh because the vest of this piece of crap reminds me errily of a scaled down exovest. Haha. So, without even knowing about the exovest, they accidently made an exovest for dslr shooting.

I had intended to design a new vest concept with my cousins, who work in prosthetics, but this vest potentially answer all of the issues I've had with vests. (but probably will not help with issues in my wallet)

ah Garrett, always hilarious..."there's a certain part of humanity either with breasts or who like to breathe who would like that..."

The Exo vest is pretty nifty. I haven't tried it myself but it is a bit controversial amongst operators--then again, everything is.

Haha, I love how he said that. Perfect delivery.

I have questions about the vest too. Nothing is perfect for everything. Look forward to trying it out. loving the 3 arm concept.

I'm not an operator, never will be, but I'm curious what they're saying about it. Why is it controversial?

Actually, now I am curious. I have had my own questions, but see the strengths and applications of this vest for me.

What is the controversy about this vest?

i wonder if there is anyway to convert this vest to work with the Pilot? im very curious about this vest. my Pilot vest is made up of too too much velcro. its unruly and loosing its sticking power and never impressed me very much even from the start.

I've heard from a few operators who have tried the vest and didn't feel that it "spoke" to them. The vest is arguably the most personal component of the rig (and working Steadicam operators are generally very specific about their kit preferences) so any new design will have it's proponents and detractors.

The most radical departure with this design is the pivots at the shoulders and hips. That's the specific part I've heard the most dissension on. To each his own.

David, this is overkill for a Pilot (in a big way). It's such a light rig that you'd been fine with a simple step up from the Pilot vest, such as the Flyer vest (oh hey I happen to have one for sale: http://www.charlespapert.net/gearsale/vests.html).

thanks charles for the input on the new vest. i was just wondering. not sure i want to invest all the way in a new vest or just try and get new velcro pieces to my pilot vest. haven't checked into the cost of that.

Another operator said it wasn't a "revelation". And one guy said the pivot felt disconcerting at first, but then made sense.

Most speculation seems positive, not just from a gadget point of view, but also from a this is better for my health point of view (less weird muscle straining).

Well, looking forward to it. I think it seems crucial for light rigs, since the hip movements and breathing disturb the inertia of light rigs more evidently, imho.
