Starter Audio Cleanup Tutorial?

Hi there,

I've just finished shooting the first project I'm going to edit myself in Vegas, and while I'm comfortable with the video end of the program, I'm pretty clueless about the audio.

I don't need anything fancy, I just want to clean up the audio I recorded on set. It was recorded with a shotgun mic on a boom, and there's the normal amount of room echo and background noise and I just want to end up with a nice warm vocal with no background noise.

Can someone point me to a tutorial or basic how-to in Vegas's help file? Thanks in advance.

There is really very little you can do to get rid of "room echo" and background noise is very difficult to eliminate, but not as difficult as room echo. In either case, there is no audio tool in Vegas that will help. You really should have gotten the mic much closer to the source but, since you didn't, perhaps Izotope RX can help a bit.

There is no software available that will make a microphone sound closer to the source than it was originally. There are, however, many ways to make it sound further away.

My boom mic was only about a foot and a half from the speaker, who didn't move during any of the takes. I think it was a fairly standard recording scenario. I'd just like to clean the audio in a standard way, whatever the typical process is. I don't know what that is, though.

What I'm looking for is a starter tutorial on the standard process of simple audio post-production.
