started new job

i started my new job at a funeral home today.

no jk, i started my job at Wal Mart today. i work in the electronics department as a sales associate. should be fun. i get a discount so i dont think i'll make it out of the store with my paycheck LOL.

saving up more for my dvx and surround sound for my room.

have fun answering "excuse me, can you point me to the direction of the gilmore girls season five and pink ipod covers?"

but seriously, good luck. And don't accidently kill the old lady greeters.

hahaha thanks.

if they ask me where they can find the Hulk, my head will explode. not really but i'd tell them to look in our garbage bin

HELL BOY YA GOT A JOB! WELCOME TO THE WORKING ASS........there's room at the top, they are telling us still, but first you must learn how to smile as you kill, if you want to be like the folks on the hill.....the working class hero is something to be, the working class hero is something to be.....if you want to be a hero well just follow me..........JOHN LENNON

thanks kimko. so far i like wal mart better than blockbuster where i worked last summer. its just a lot better of a work enviroment. people are more friendly at wal mart. they really care about the workers and customers and will work around whatever you have going on in life, like my fla vacation coming up in a few weeks.

Just out of curiosity is it true that the employees of Walmart have to say some sort of prayer before work? A simple yes or no will suffice as I don't want this to go there, I have just heard this is all:)

Oh and congrats on the new job

no they don't say a prayer. there's some song that we sing unfortunately. it's to get us going and such... haven't had to sing it yet.

Thanks for clearing that up, it was something I'd heard on the street so to speak and since you now work there I thought it was a good oppurtunity to get the facts. Cheers

So how much unpaid overtime did they squeak out of you?

And do you get accused of timetheft frequently.

they make you tell them if you work overtime so that they can pay you for what you worked. also if after you clock out and are leaving the store and a customer asks you for help you should help them then go back to a manager and tell them that you just helped someone off the clock and need a time adjustment card. if they find out you're working off the clock or overtime without being paid you can get fired.

Congrats on the job, ravinesedge.

I can never quite grasp why Walmart continues to catch such flak. It is definitely the "whipping boy" of the retail word, and amongst certain critics (including some on this board) this misguided attitude is in no danger of changing anytime soon. Personally (as a proud capitalist) I am a big fan of Walmart and the Walmart business model itself.

thanks Callaghan. i like the fact that they don't use a union. they let the WORKERS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. that is refreshing to me. why pay an outside party to speak for the workers when you can let the workers speak for themselves. keep in mind i'm not against unions, i just like wal marts stance better.

I concur. Interesting that the questions he was asked were dripping with such underlying political/religious overtones.

At least they don't make you jump through the hoops the FBI does. I just submitted an application with them and Good Grief, the pages and pages of questions.

Like I'm supposed to remember how many times I smoked pot 35 years ago. Sheesh.

I've worked there before. Twice. I quit both times. Hated it. Way too big. Mean people. I hate costumers.

Anyhoo...

I now work at Target, going on three weeks.

I come in at 4am and leave by 9am. No customers and the staff is pretty friendly. I just got promoted as the head guy in electronics. I'm kind of pissed because that's alot more responsability than I had wanted. Oh well.

Oh, and we have a chant too:

1-4-5-8 SUPER TARGET, SUPER GREAT!

:crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

really super? all the co workers at my store are really nice. i've only had a few problems with customers being picky about which Nintendo DS they wanted... i know that customers can sometimes be really rude but i had to put up with that at Blockbuster when i worked there.
