SORRY ABOUT THE LONG POST!!!
Since Monday, i started volunteering at my moms job at this hospital. Throughout the week, i just kinda sat around the office and pushed papers which i hate doing. So yesterday one of her good friends who's well known throughout the hospital that works across the hall comes up to me and cuts a deal with me.
He knows i like making movies and filming things, and he asked me to create a documentary on promoting a medical class he hosts at one of the lecture halls. Its a program where normal people can sign up and learn different things about medicine and such. I went through it, and i fell asleep every lecture. but thats not the point.
Afterwards, i accepted, then today i go down to the A/V department to rent out a camera and tripod. They didnt have any available at the time, so i came back 2 hours later. I walk into the room and i asked the guy, and he goes into the back room and whips out an HVX. He's like here's a camera and a tripod and says I think you can figure this out, I felt nervous. And the tripod he gives me weighs about 25 pounds, its a Bogen. It was kill...
The guy hooks me up with three P2 cards, both 8 gigabite.
So im like..OmFG!!! i take the camera and go outside to film. I started planning out my shots, because today was just filming scenery around the hospital, the different buildings, courtyard, etc. I went around the hospital and started filming the area, then as im packing up to go to another spot, a security guard comes up to me.
He tells me that I cant film here because of Public Safety, and that i need a written letter from the Public Safety chief. I thought it was pretty stupid because I wasnt endangering the safety of anyone, so i pick up the equipment and walk to the other side of the hospital and film more, then another security guard stops me and tells me to get out of the area. I could tell he wasnt joking. I head back to the office, and told the guy what happened.
An hour passes by, then i get a written letter and approval to go around and film. So at this point now im free-roaming around the whole campus and nobody could stop me. Its a good feeling. I filmed every where, and each spot, a security guard told me to get lost, then I would flash the letter infront of them and they got out of there in a jiffy.
I filmed around a lot of different locations, but i didnt get to do all so i have to go back and film more tomorrow. I felt kinda sad that I had to return the camera because I didnt get to really learn much of the camera, I only had it for 2 1/2 hours running around all over the place with the battery dieing on me. Now i know why everyone is really crazy about the camera, its really an animal when it comes to handling HD. I played back the footage on one of the plasmas sitting in the A/V room, and the quality is disgustingly good.
But tomorrow and the rest of next week i get to use this beast. For certain parts im thinking of shooting 24p but not the whole thing, its not supposed to be a film, more like info-mercial. Anyone have any suggestions for settings to use for outdoor and indoor office filming?
