start/stop detection

I'm using FCE4 and trying to capture DV NTSC footage so that the clips break down according to when the camera recording has been started and stopped. I can't understand why this isn't happening. In my other HDV projects Start/stop detection always occurs automatically when I capture footage -- after I finish capturing with Capture Now the clips appear in the bin for each start-to-stop.

But when I try to capture DV footage I just get one long clip -- it doesn't automatically break down by scene. I have to go to Mark to break down the clip into subclips.

Is there any setting I am missing?

Any help appreciated. I've just spent over two hours with the manual and looking over settings and I'm as perplexed as ever.
 
I did a 2 cam shoot a lil bit ago and the one camera time and date was not set so it didnt pick up on the scene detect, while the other cam was and the scence detect did pick up. hope that help.
 
I have the same issue. After trying to resolve it for a few weeks, I simply use iMovie to capture the footage and then drop files into FCE's browser.
