Stargate Universe

I'm liking Carlyle as well. His character I was afraid was taking the path of Baltar from BSG, but as I watch it more and more, he's becoming unique and interesting.

I just gotta say though. What I really love about these past few episodes is how it's more of a man vs environment than anything else. It's also a big focus on the characters on the ship and how they have to adapt. It's about the conflicts within the group.

It's sort of what Defying Gravity should have done (does anyone actually watch it still?) but was afraid to do. The producer of Defying Gravity even said (loosely quoted) "you can't create conflict with a few people stuck in a tin can for months on end". I would just take SGU and throw it in his face and yell "you don't know anything!"

Defying Gravity completely missed the mark in my opinion. They played it way too safe and tried to appeal to everyone but those who actually like and are versed in science fiction.

You hit it on the nail. I'm still pretty angry of how terrible Defying Gravity was, just because it was a Canadian endeavor, and it took sci-fi and beat it with a bloody axe.

Which is why Stargate Universe is a breath of fresh air for me. Hopefully it'll get even better when they expand on things.

Anyone been watching it lately?

I was getting a bit tired of the whole "they're all going to die unless.." storylines and was hoping they'd expand on it a bit more. Still feels the same, like they're going in circles.

I think they mentioned an alien race will appear at one point, and hopefully that will open things up a bit as it feels a bit too claustrophobic with characters right now.

So the second half just started, or season 1.5 as they call it (hmm, bsg anyone?).

Gotta say that episode had some punch to it. If they keep going in this direction it should get good. Not a fan of the behind the behind the scene mutiny that's developing, but it could be interesting. The introduction of this mysterious alien race is great though.

Rush comes back, makes nice with the colonel, and five minutes later, he's plotting mutiny. Made no sense. If he was going to do that, all he had to do was say the colonel tried to kill him.

Yeah, as with most TV, you can't think too much or things just don't add up. Look at this season of 24.

I see it as trying to commit mutiny behind his back. Seems more like rush's character, rather than to bring it to light.

Not to mention that if he brings it to light the Collonel will just hit back with the fact that Rush framed him for murder. Doing it in secret means Rush doesn't have to face that backlash (not yet at least).

Doesn't feel like a plot hole to me.

The last episode was the best yet. This is what BSG did best: used the scifi drama format to create exceptional scenarios which improve your characters.

If not for the preview for this week's coming episode -- open mutiny -- I might agree.

It's too bad ratings aren't doing well. I feel like they're starting to get their footing. The first part started off a bit weak with too much woe and despair as they struggled and struggled and struggled, plus mixed with their relationships on earth as they used the communication stones.

But now more action is introduced, alien races, even a strange planet built by a race. I've heard about what's coming, with lots of new characters in the second season (and introduced at the finale), it should be interesting.

I'm warming up to this show. I never watched BSG nor the previous versions of the Stargate franchises.

Still like the show, but I'm telling you the writers are breaking their necks now trying to make the show cool and character-drama based.

The last episode featured an ALIEN MADE PLANET AND STAR, COMPLETE WITH GLOWING OBELISK, and they're like 'oooo but look at this, so and so is PREGNANT'. Seriously I do not care who is pregnant.

I'm sad to see it go. This show did kinda fill the hole that was left by BSG. It was just starting to pick up steam after a very slow (but interesting) first season.

History Channel is now "White Trucker Channel"

Sci-fi is now "The Wrestling Channel, with Reality Ghost Hunters"

I'm really ticked to see SGU, go, it was the first SG that I liked.
