Star wars box set

Re: Star wars box set

didn't george Lucas say in episode one commentary- or somewhere that the STARWARS story is really told through the eyes of the droids?

Re: Star wars box set

Star Wars Trilogy just came out a week ago in Australia (and about time too)

It was much antisapated and they have been flying off the shelves.

After watching the special features I developed an even greater apreciation for George Lucas after learning all the inovations he made to film (Editing, Pixar etc)

His biggest strength is story telling and how he takes us on a journey from Luke's humble beginnings to becoming a jedi etc.

And having great contrasting characters with attitude (Han, Leigha) and querky lovable characters (R2 and Chewy) plus an awsome villan (Vader) and much much more along the way.

The other thing I give Geoge Lucas big wraps for, is creating a futuristic environment that is old and gritty which made audiences relate to the environments unlike previous Sci-fies which were all super clean polished chrome settings.

It was awsome to see all three over again and I absolutly loved the special features - Empire of dreams

P.S How funny is the Simpsons episode when Homer comes out of the theatre and spoils "Empire strikes back" for everyone lining up out side!

Re: Star wars box set

Overall the Trilogy set is wonderful.  The restoration and mastering of the films is great.  I have no real complaints I guess other than the above mentioned 'enhancements'

1. JABBA scene in STAR WARS
2. GREEDO SHOOTING FIRST
3. JEDI ROCKS in JABBAS PALACE is very weak and clownlike
4. THE CHANGE of MUSIC at the end of JEDI doesnt really work either

I wonder if they will CGI a gun into the swordmans hand in RAIDERS so INDY doesnt look like a 'cold blooded' killer for simly shooting him?  :P

The first 2 films are my favorites by far.  JEDI is a great film but something definatley has changed in this film in regards to LUCAS vision and style.   HAN goes from tough and cool to kind of clowny and wimpy; the acting doesnt seem to be as on as it was in the first two films and it seems forced at times.  The EWOKS as we all know are just a little too cute.  C3PO states in the orginal that "he's not much of a storyteller..." yet in JEDI he's going through a performance piece in for the EWOKS.  The RANCOR scene doesnt seem to hold the same weight as before with the new JEDI ROCKS theme as it goes down.

Overall?  Still great great great films that all SCiFi/Adventures still try to emulate.  In fact I can barely think of any films since that have had the same captivation.  LOTR stands out but there are still people that just arent into into LOTR (perhaps its the Fantasy angle?) and MATRIX was huge but definatley cultish and the second 2 films IMHO were not nearly as good as the first whereas the second 2 SW films kicked ass.

Im rambling...

Re: Star wars box set

At least Lucas now has Greedo and Han shoot at the same time, rather than Greedo clearly shooting first in the '97 version.

Can anyone confirm whether or not there was the Naboo celebration scene in the '97 ROTJ special edition? Or was that added for this DVD release?

Re: Star wars box set

Something just flashed through my mind...

Lucas says "He went back and added the stuff because he couldn't do that back in the day."

The weird part about that is...What about movies like Jaws..

You don't see Spielberg going back and saying..."Aww The shark looks fake...CGI the hell out of it...Let's make it ultra real."

...and the next thing you know...

Re: Star wars box set

Spielberg made changes to E.T. for his special edition.

He removed guns from the police officers' belts, for instance. In my mind, he's guilty, too...

Re: Star wars box set

A special 20th Anniversary edition (with a digitally remixed soundtrack, additional footage and computer-generated enhancements to existingscenes) was released in March 2002. It included the following include the following changes:
a new, CGI-enhanced scene showing E.T. and Elliot taking a bath together. The scene was originally scrapped because Spielberg thought the animatronic effects weren't up to par;
for the "E.T. phone home" dialogue scenes, CGI has been used to make E.T.'s lips movement match the words more closely;
a longer version of the Halloween sequence;
in the original release, the government agents pursuing E.T. and Elliot had weapons in their hands; the new edition digitally replaces them with walkie-talkies/
changes in dialogue: Elliot's mother's prohibition to go trick-or-treating dressed as "a terrorist" has been changed to "a hippie"

I knew it!! I was looking out for it, My little sister said "Oh he's going to get bitten!!!" and went to point it out to my sister the glass...but it wasn't there! ha weird.

Re: Star wars box set

*phew*

I was watching Raiders with a buddy, and he was giving me a hard time because "There's no way you'd see a REFLECTION in a real movie!"
I insisted it was there, but sure enough when the scene came, it wasn't. I was questioning my sanity!
