Star Trek Beyond

I think Beyond was a failure. Rather dull especially in action sequences. The story reminds an episode of a TV series. I believe Justin Lin is not yet ready for Star Trek. Of course my opinion, but I really hate his and Windon's infatuation with 3D model compositing done with cameras wide open and "positioned" close to models (and that certainly made its stereoscopic version very weird).

Rogue One...December, baby. FTW!!

Interesting point here.

Rogue One faithfully, even meticulously, re-creates the sets, costumes, models, and even hair and makeup of the original Star Wars, but no one is saying it looks outdated for being 40 years old. In fact, there would probably be much gnashing of teeth for changing even the merest iota of it.

Something much closer in look and feel to the original Star Trek was absolutely possible, and would have worked fine.
