Can someone point me in the right direction for photo background type stands for holding sound blankets... How heavy a stand to support 8-9#s? I did see one at Calumet for $120 ea... not sure if it was sturdy enough to hold the weight though.
one easy way to stand a blanket would be a large thick cardboard or masonite [4x8 ish] drape the top with the blanket and lean against the wall. Otherwise you could drape furniture or lay blankets on the floor. clothesline with clips works too.
look for a seller called amova on Ebay... I got a nice little kit with a bad that has two stands that go up to like 9ft and have a bar that breaks down into four sections which is about 12ft long... it holds two 9lbs sound blankets with no problem
amova sells all kinds of knockoffs but for this type of applicaiton their stuff is super cheap and perfect
Thanks for the suggestions... I also thought about those clampy flower hangers for acoustic ceiling grids... they might fit the grommets as well. Probably better to get a pair of stands though.
I use the stands with clamps, but I put grommets in my blankets also to hand them in my walk in closet to use as a sound booth... Home Depot has a kit for grommets and they are not only cheap but super easy to put on
I've always used C-stands with boom arms. Run the arm out half-way which forms a 'T' and a few spring clips hold furnie pads quite well. They can be moved around quite easy. Matthews are the old standard but several companies manufacture C-Stands. I alway bum them off the grip truck, it is always wise to get friendly with the grip dept. Hope this helps
Good luck

We have two Savage backdrop set-ups which we use to hang sound blankets (among other things). If I remember right, we bought them with the grommets, but we haven't put them to use yet. We have only ever hung them with clamps (little ones from Home Depot). Anyway, they work fine also... and are handy to have around.
