standard music video length

Does anybody know what the standard cutoff is for networks like MTV and MTV2? I've been approached by a group to do a video for a song that is almost 6.5 minutes long. Besides this being waaaay too long to keep a viewer's interest, I am looking for an excuse/reasonable guideline for length to suggest to the group.

Sounds a little too long. If they are considering a single, there should be a "radio" edit, or slice it up so it is around 3- 3:30 minutes long
