How do I down rez from hd to sd I shot hd with the canon xl h1 and edit final cut if I down rez will it give me the best look or should I just export regular settings?

Or any suggestions to get the best look out of a dvd.
 
First of all, I havent shot with a H1 so I am basing this off of z1u workflow, but you have two clear options that I cant see.

First is not to down rez. HDV really takes up the same disc space as DV so you wont be saving any room by down rezzing. You may need a little extra horse power for editing, but it shouldnt be too much. The only issue here is that I am not sure what editing software has gotten the whole 24f thing figured out yet.

The other option is to have the camera down convert for you. I dont know about the HLh1 but the z1u has an option to down covert to DV on the fly. You just capture to your computer like regular dv.

As far as the best for a dvd, i would use the first option and edit in HD. Then you down rez your final product when you are doing the Mpeg 2 conversion. This will give you the best possible compression because you will be over sampling
