Stage lighting.

I was filming a gig yesterday that had red stage lights as well as tungstens. I white balanced my camera and the footage looks great, the skin tones are spot on when the subject is lit by the tungsten, and obviously red when hit by the red light...Just out of interest, is there away to get the skin tones the same throughout all the light changes? If I were to white balance the camera when being lit by the red light, would the colour look neutral, or still reddish?

With two different colors of light, the only way to achieve what you want would be to have two different white balance settings. One setting would be for tungsten and the other would be for the red lights.

Just out of curiosity, was there any reason for the stage lights being red? Were they gelled that way? If so, were they gelled that way for a reason? Could you have removed the red gels? Where the red gels in place in order to somehow enhance the performance?

I shoot concerts at the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. We get all kinds of colored lights to work with. 99% of the time it's best to just set the camera for the default 3200K tungsten setting and let the colors of the lights do what the lighting director intended.

Not sure, they were obviously red for the the atmosphere, but I don't think it was a gel.

I'm not going to colour correct or anything, the light defininitely gives a nice vibe, I was just wondering if it was possible :p

You can obviously see the heavy red on the vocalist face, but the neutral tones on the guitarist arm. If I wanted the whole of vocalist to be the same colour tone of the guitarist, I would obviously have to balance for the red light when I shoot him? As you say, I'm going to leave it as the lighting director inteneded, I'm just interested in how it would be done :p Just started getting into lighting at school now, so I have a lot of questions about methods. You never realize how much of a difference good lighting makes until you start using it and start seeing the world in yellow and blue hues :p
