Stabilizing -- how can I paint in my markers?

First off, I should say what I'm trying to stabilize is a locked down camera on a tripod. It is a long duration shot and no matter how many signs you make people always manage to bump it.

I've found stabilizing in AE using it's brilliant trackers is about as effective as kindly asking your camera to shake less. I've found it's trackers to be next to useless in my situations and find it unbelievable it works so well in tutorials I've seen. I do no need a lesson on stabilization, and I've experimented with the perimeters under options as well. After trying dozens of methods using dozens of different search regions I can't stop the trackers from drifting. Even when there are periods of absolutely no movement the trackers seems to jump around.

Because I find the trackers to be so awful I would like to attempt to paint in my own markers. But now I have to learn how to do that. I only need to paint it manually in the frames where the tripod is bumped. In between those frames I would like to apply or paste the markers in the same locations.

I've spent 5 hours trying to learn how to do this. Anyone have advice?

Dont track the whole thing, only track the 2 seconds of the tripod being bumped.
To get your own markers in would be a waste of time, if you are that desperate, just manualy rotate/move/scale the shot yourself

I understand now painting in markers would take as long as doing the stabilizing by hand anyhow.

I "would" only track the 2 seconds, except I need to apply the changes from the end of one bump to the beginning of a new bump (because when the tripod is bumped it doesn't return back to the original position).

How does one do that?

Just move/scale/rotate it back manually after the bump. Post bump you have 1 fixed location. Pre bump you have 1 fixed location. It shouldn't be that difficult to do manually. It would take more time trying to track it.

Yes! That sounds great! But how do I apply that post-bump fixed location to all the frames after until the next bump? I know this is incredibly simple but have never done this and am killing myself... (been up all night)

I also need to learn how to move/rotate manually? Is this a transform function? Opening manual now (again for the 10th time the past day.....)

Okay! I think I'm getting it but the method I'm doing it is incredibly tedious!

I moved my anchor point to where I would normally put my tracker so I can keep an eye on it. I place keyframes and realign the anchor point (while not moving the position) when it's off, then I go to the opposite side of the image and change rotation and scale as needed although I have to do this by eye since I can't place another mark so compare with.

Is this the best way of going about it? Problem is I'm having to manually enter the data, or move the sliders. It would be MUCH faster if I could just drag the layer but doing so moves the position too. I only want to move the anchor point. Is there a way to drag the layer to move the anchor point without effecting position?

Thanks so much!

Okay... I think I just figured it out. I went ahead and stabilized the rough sections frame by frame.. But before I did that I needed to write out all bumps on a list using a rough QT export.

Seems like it worked. Thanks guys. I apologize if it's sounds like I was lost, indeed I was
