Stabilization (Smoothcam) on FCPX

Hi to all.
I'm a new entry of this forum, but I read your posts from 2007, when I started to work with FCP.
Sorry for my english, I'm writing from Italy, so maybe my language is not correct at 100%. :cry:

Just for a simple presentation of me, you can look my works on vimeo (here) .

I have a question about Final Cut Pro X and smoothcam (called now stabilization).
I hope you can help me to fix a problem that I have. I will try to explain better that I can, my situation.

My new final cut pro x project is about a concert. I recorded it with 2 cams.
One camera was stable on a normal main position, I used it only for base of my video.
One camera on my hand, used to take faces, particulars, singers and etc etc.
To simple the edit I just start to record on the two camera, and then I never stop to record.

On my project I have now a storyline (first cam), I putted on top of it the second clip of the second camera.
It all ok. After the synchronization of this two clips, I have edit my project wit a color correction to "merge" the two cams (a little canon legria and a Canon XHA1s). I have cut all the movement of my second camera, and then fixed all my clips on the primary story line, with cross fade. A VERY SIMPLE PROJECT, OK?

Now my project is near to end. But I have one problem.
Some clips of my second cam (the hand came) have to be stabilize.
I actives the stabilization option and FCPX start to analyze the clip.
But now is working from 3 hours!!!
I think that FCPX is now analyzing ALL the man clip, not only the clip of the sequence...

On last version of Final Cut Pro, it does the same, so I used this workaround:
Select the part if clip that I have to stabilize;
export that part;
reimport like a new clip;
insert on my project on the same place of last one.
Apply the smootcham filter.

I have to use the same workaround on FCPX???

Hi Teppy

I'm just learning iMovie and FCP X myself, on FCP X - on the timeline select the clip (yellow box around it) and with the inspector open - stabilise is an option, click the box to select it and only that clip with be stabilised.

So cut your entire sequence then select clips that need to stabilised.

Unfortunately, you still need to use the same workaround if you don't want to stabilize the entire original clip.

Have you tried the blade tool to cut the clip(s) and then stabilize the portion(s) that need it?

Sorry, I think that I didn't explain very well my question.

I have 2 big clips on my event, think about two hours for each.
These clips are of a musical concert.
2 clips of two cameras.
One camera was on a tripod. The other one was on my hand.

So, the clip of the second camera include all my movements from a place to another one to change shots.
I synchronized the two clips and then I cutted all my camera movements from the clips and then I edited all the video.

Now I see that when I use the Sincronize option to one of that cutted clip, FCPX seems to takes a very long time to analyze the clip, so I suspect that it was analyzing all the entire clip of two hours.
Is this idea real?

If your clips were already synchronized before you cut clip 2, why do you need to re-synchronize them?

If your clips were already synchronized before you cut clip 2, why do you need to re-synchronize them?
Sorry!!!
I was sleeping while i was writing last day...... :)))

The right sentence is : Now I see that when I use the STABILIZE option to one of that cutted clip, FCPX seems to takes a very long time to analyze the clip, so I suspect that it was analyzing all the entire clip of two hours.
Last message was wrong.

So, after many hours of work on fcpx, I think that I have my response. Fcpx stabilize only the part of clip present on timeline...
