Stabbing Scene in "The Village"

I'd say forget the extra padding. Forget the body altogether.
I guess the most convincing way would be half of a mannequin (dressed).
The "stabbed" section could be made from styrofoam or anything that can be rounded & shaped to resemble a torso (not too much detail needed because it'll be clothed)
Build it as a prop & dress it. Have someone reach around the prop for "reaching down to feel the wound/knife" portion. You could pull it off with the right perspective.

If the camera is looking down, you could easily use a retractible knife and have it look pretty good...OR...use a body plate, which is a metal plate that you tie to the body of the actor...that has soft wood or foam padding so the knife will stick into it. There's no danger of it going all the way through because of the metal...the only thing you have to worry about is hitting the right spot...hahaha

But anyways...that is how they do it in many movies.
