James Carpenter Well-known member Jun 14, 2011 #2 SSD vs. HD. Benefits of SSD: Faster boot and restart for OS - say 50% faster No spin up time, so read/write functions to the SSD are performed instantly. Most HD's take about 2 seconds before you can write to them. Quieter, use less energy, don't give off as much heat Cons of HD: Almost 10x the price on a per Gb basis If you can afford it for an OS/software drive and really need to save yourself 2 minutes a day, then go for it. Personally, I would rather put the cash towards better RAM/CPU/GPU components.
