SSD for video purposes: which ones to to buy & considerations for portable devices

Hello again,

I write a 2nd article for people looking at SSD as for video purposes.

I publish the thread here cause i think that its important for users, but hey administrators you can move to other place if you think will be best.

You will find info about ssd (test & benchs), capacities, sizes, notes on raid & degradation, a chart about how many MB/s is need for 4:2:2 and 4:4:4, controllers, and models.

So here are the links:
SSD for video 1 : SSD intro., test, benchs
SSD for video 2 : chart, controllers & models, conclusions

Be aware that i'm a colaborator of the martin guys team, but there i explain some keys that those of you that will go for uncompressed recordings need to know.

Don't hesitate to ask questions about SSD. Do you want to buy some 1 or more SSD for your computer. Do you want to buy some portable recorder and want to know what drives you can use, use this thread.

Now are the times of solid state drives

Anandtech posted a review of the new OCZ Vertex 3 SSD drives, where the 240 GB model with a 6 Gbps connection showed a sustained sequential READ speed of 413.5 MB/sec and a sequential WRITE speed of 371.4 MB/sec, which is significantly faster than any of the Intel SSD drives.

AnandTech Review of the OCZ Vertex 3 SSD

Anandtech was ever in the vagon side of sandforce controllers.

Do a research about OCZ Vertex 3 bench with Crystal Disk mark (crystal disk mark & As SSD are the valid test tools for video purposes)..
Or Look at:
http://thessdreview.com/our-reviews...-crystal-diskmark-as-ssd-hdtach-and-win7-wei/

You will see a 290 and 277 MB/sec as for sequentiall writes
And they (OCZ) said 500MB/sec.. and that's not true (ocz lies from the beggining with its score numbers), opposed to for example, Intel, when intel said 315MB/s and then is 320MB/s or more .. (for 250GB SSD 510)

Until one can prove and make a video recording tests with Vertex 3 drives, until then i cannot said go with vertex 3.

Remember that you need to take note about sequentiall write, believe only in crystal and or As SSD.
Thus, I have bad experience with OCZ drives, they have a big issue with degradation

I have had good and bad experiences with almost every drive manufacturer. One product might be great, but their next product might be terrible.

SSD technology is maturing rapidly, so your experience with a previous SSD might be meaningless when evaluating a new SSD.
